Public Meeting Notice

Notice is hereby given that an application has been made by the City of Fitchburg (Fitchburg) for approval from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) for Fitchburg to acquire certain lands or rights of land (conservation restrictions) in the City of Fitchburg and the Towns of Ashburnham and Ashby for public water supply protection purposes.  Said lands are identified as the following:

84 acres of land located at Jewell Hill Road, Ashburnham, MA 38 9 &10
76 acres of land located at Crocker Road, Ashby, MA 13 12.2, 12.3, &12.4
20 acres of land located on Crocker Road, Ashby, MA 13 15

In response to said application, the City of Fitchburg, acting under the provisions of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 40 Section 41 as amended and each and every other act, will hold a public hearing.  The hearing will be held at the Fitchburg Water Department Office at 1200 Rindge Road, Massachusetts on May 7, 2020, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  The hearing will be closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Members of the public can listen to and participate in the hearing remotely/virtually. 

Directions for accessing the hearing remotely will be posted on this webpage when availabile  or you may call the Fitchburg Division of Water Supply at 978-345-9616 ext. 2.

Property Plans

The plans showing the land in question above can also be sent electronically via email (by contacting the Water Department).  

If needed, paper copies of the plans may also be picked up at the Fitchburg Water Department Office at 1200 Rindge Road, Massachusetts - please note that appointments must be made for picking up plans by calling the Water Department at 978-345-9616 ext. 2.  

Persons picking up plans will not be permitted to enter the building, plan copies will be brought out to parking lot to the requester(s).  Plan copies will also be available electronically by requesting a Public Records Review from the MassDEP Central Regional Office in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Comment Period

Comments pertaining to this matter may be made remotely at the time of the hearing or submitted in writing at any time before 5:00 p.m. on May 11, 2020, to Susan Connors at the MassDEP Central Regional Office.
