No-Excuse Vote By Mail

The City of Fitchburg offers no-excuse early Vote By Mail in all state and federal elections and primaries. No-excuse vote by mail will be available during the 2023 local preliminary and general elections. 

Requests to Vote by Mail must be received by 5 PM at least 5 business days prior to the election. Applications must be received by the City Clerks Office prior to this deadline, no applications received after this date will be accepted. We strongly recommend you submit your application several weeks prior to an election to allow sufficient time for the mail-in ballot to be delivered to you and returned prior to election day.

Absentee Voting

In the event a local election does not allow no-excuse vote by mail, all elections, preliminaries and primaries allow for absentee voting in Fitchburg. Applications for absentee ballots will be accepted in you will be away from Fitchburg on Election Day, you have a religious belief which would prevent you from voting at your polling place on Election Day or if you have a disability which prevents you from voting at your polling place.

Emergency Absentee Ballots

If you have been admitted to a healthcare facility within one week of the election, you may use the absentee ballot application to designate someone of your choice to deliver a ballot to you. The person you designate to deliver your ballot will need to bring a signed application to the City Clerk's Office, pick up your absentee ballot, bring it to you, and return it for you by the close of polls on Election Day. Emergency ballots may be requested up until the close of polls.

Deliver your Vote By Mail or Absentee Application to the City Clerk’s Office by (choose one option):

  • U.S. Mail to City Clerk, 718 Main Street, Fitchburg, MA  01420
  • E-mail to vote@fitchburgma.gov
  • Hand-delivered to the City Clerk’s Office by placing it in the secure Mail Drop Box in front of City Hall (718 Main Street).

Returning you Ballot

No-excuse vote by mail ballots and absentee ballots may be returned in the following ways:

  • Mailing the ballot using the envelope provided.
  • Hand-deliver the ballot to the City Clerk's Office, 718 Main Street, Fitchburg
