Political Parties and Designations

When you register to vote you may choose to enroll in a political party or political designation or you may choose to remain unenrolled, which is commonly referred to as independent.

If you choose not to enroll in a party you may still vote in state and federal primaries by choosing a party ballot and will remain unenrolled.

If you choose to enroll in a party you may only vote in that party's primary. The choice to enroll in a party does not affect your right to vote in a general election. All ballots are the same in a general election regardless of party enrollment.

Once you make an enrollment decision, you may change your enrollment status by notifying the Fitchburg City Clerk in writing at least 10 day before an election.
