National Drug Take Back Day
Saturday, April 24, 2021
On Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 10 a.m. to Noon, the City of Fitchburg Health Department, Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will provide the public the opportunity to dispose of unused and unwanted pills in front of City Hall, 718 Main Street, Fitchburg. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. You may “drive up and drop off”.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.
To keep everyone safe, all COVID-19 guidelines and regulations will be followed. Social distancing will be observed and masks required. For those interested, resource materials and Narcan will be available.
Residents are also reminded that there is a permanent kiosk located in the lobby of the Fitchburg Police Department at 20 Elm Street which allows for safe disposal of both unused medications and sharps.
