Veteran Services Office advocates on behalf of all the Fitchburg Veterans and dependents, to provide them with quality support services, and to provide financial and medical assistance, in accordance with MGL Chapter 115; CMR 108, to eligible Fitchburg residents.
The Department advises and assists clients in obtaining benefits to which they are entitled. Some of the benefits are:
Emergency financial assistance (MGL CH 115) to all eligible needy veterans who served honorably.
Process Annuity payments to 100% disabled/blind veterans, plus Gold Star parents and spouses.
Assistance in filing tax abatement forms
Assistance in obtaining veterans license plates
Assistance in obtaining federal VA benefits, such as service connected disability and non-service pensions, medical benefits, home loan and educational benefits, death and burial benefits and any other benefit they may be entitled to receive.
Additionally the Veteran Services Office is responsible for coordinating Memorial Day and Veterans Day activities, planning the annual Patriots Day 5K race, assisting veterans with related activities to veterans’ services, and flagging veteran graves at all municipal cemeteries.
