Intown Infrastructure Updates

Fitchburg Infrastructure Upgrades Underway The City of Fitchburg is launching major infrastructure improvements downtown to upgrade water, sewer, and roadway systems. These projects will modernize aging infrastructure, reduce flooding risks, improve water quality, and enhance pedestrian access. Key work includes water system upgrades on Main Street, Moran Square, and Water Street; sewer separation projects to meet EPA and MassDEP requirements; gas line updates by Unitil; MassDOT-led bridge replacements on Water and River Streets; and sidewalk and pavement repairs on Main Street. The improvements will increase reliability, safety, and environmental compliance across the city. Weekly updates with schedules and detour info will be shared on the City’s website.
