Feed Fitchburg

Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown that began on October 1st, eligible recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program SNAP will likely see a lapse in benefits for the month of November.  

12,773 Fitchburg residents (30% of our residents) rely on this assistance to feed their families

In response to this crisis, the City of Fitchburg is launching a city-wide initiative to collect food donations and distribute the donations to our neighbors in need. Please see additional information below:

We are accepting donations in 3 designated distribution bins throughout the City. Donations will go directly to the City of Fitchburg food distribution. Any donations remaining once SNAP benefits resume will be distributed to the Fitchburg Public Schools. If you’re able, please consider picking up a few extra items on your next grocery trip.

  3. Cowboy Supermarket II, 24 John Fitch Highway
  4. City Hall, 718 Main St., Fitchburg


Donations must be non-perishable (foods that do not need to be frozen or refrigerated), unopened, and not expired.

Most needed food items include: 

  1. Canned vegetables, beans, soup, & proteins (tuna)
  2. Rice, mac and cheese, & pasta
  3. Shelf stable milks & juices 
  4. Peanut butter & applesauce 
  5. Cereal, oatmeal, & granola bars

DISTRIBUTION 

The City of Fitchburg will be hosting a food distribution event on Friday, November 7th 2025 from 5:00PM - 7:30PM at the Legislative Building, 700 Main St., Fitchburg. Distribution will be on a first come, first served basis and will be dependent on donations received. Fitchburg residency and SNAP enrollment required. 

Additional food distribution date(s) will be announced at a later date, if SNAP benefits have not resumed, here on the city website and on the Mayor's Facebook Page.
