Upcoming On-Site Sewage Disposal System Board of Health Regulation
The Health Department proposed to the Board of Health to adopt a regulation mandating the use of monolithic double compartment septic tanks for new septic systems as well as for the repair of failed systems. Septic tanks are made of two halves put together at the time of installation. Monolithic tanks have a seam on the top of the tank instead of the middle greatly preventing the chances of a leak. Double compartment tanks allow for more setting of the sediments inside the tank and provide a clearer effluent to be delivered to the leaching field promoting the systems lifespan. We are looking for feedback from the community prior to the Board's adoption in February of the proposed regulation. Please send your comments and/or concerns to Jean-Francois Leblanc or Steve Curry.
Updated Private Well Regulations
Following the recent classification by MassDEP of PFAS chemicals as contaminants in drinking water, the Board of Health has adopted a revised version of the Private Well Regulations on October 10, 2024. A summary of the changes can be found here.

Let's Clean up our recycling cart!
The City has partnered with MassDEP in an effort to reduce our recycling contamination level. In this endeavor, recycling carts will be inspected and those that do not follow proper recycling guidelines will be tagged and rejected. These carts will need to be removed from the curb and the offending items identified on the tag will need to be removed from the cart. The hauler will not return for an additional collection and the cart will be emptied at the next scheduled collection. Please follow the proper recycling guidelines highlighted here.
